Maeve/Mebd

Medb (Maeve) is a fierce and ambitious queen, known for her strength, cunning, and wild spirit. Seen by some as a sovereignty goddess, she is a warrior and a powerful force who both creates and destroys heroes. No king can truly rule Ireland without first taking part in the Sacred Rite with Maeve—entering a sacred marriage that grants him the right to rule and brings prosperity to the land. Yet her favor is not guaranteed; she makes kings and breaks them, withdrawing her support whenever she deems a ruler unworthy. Medb’s presence alone can weaken men, and she rides across battlefields in a chariot no one can catch unless she allows it. As a goddess of sex, fertility, death, and war, Medb embodies the power, promise, and abundance of the earth. Her name shares roots with “mead,” reflecting her intoxicating, ecstatic nature.
