Bastet Statue (Large)

$222.00

Bastet, also known as Bast, is the ancient Egyptian goddess of protection, cats, fertility, music, and healing. Often depicted with the head of a cat and holding an ankh—the symbol of life—Bastet embodies both fierce strength and nurturing care. She is the daughter of the sun god Ra, sister of the warrior goddess Sekhmet, wife of Ptah, and mother of the lion-headed god Mihos.

Originally worshipped as a lioness goddess of war, Bastet’s nature softened over time, and she became known as a benevolent protector of the home, women, and children. She was closely associated with joy, sensuality, music, dance, and fragrant ointments. As the goddess of cats, she was honored for her grace, independence, and fierce loyalty—qualities the ancient Egyptians admired and revered.

Bastet’s worship was widespread, especially in the city of Bubastis, where grand festivals were held in her honor. To the ancient Greeks, she was known as Ailuros, meaning “cat,” reflecting the deep cross-cultural reverence for her powerful and graceful spirit.
