Hera, known as the Queen of the Olympian gods, was a powerful goddess even before her marriage to Zeus, the king of the gods. She is the protector of women and is often associated with cows, peacocks, and lions. Hera was famous for her fierce jealousy, especially toward Zeus’s illegitimate children—each one a reminder of his infidelity—and she did not hesitate to unleash her wrath upon them and their mothers. She also sought vengeance against other goddesses who challenged her authority. Despite Zeus’s many affairs, Hera remained faithful, honoring their marriage vows. Because of this, she became known as the goddess of marriage and sovereignty.
